
The popular Victorian women’s magazine ‘The Ladies’ Treasury’ of 1859 offers a picture of idealised motherhood in its series ‘An Hour with Mamma.’ Intended as a read aloud anecdotal account of British history for families to share, it offers a neat summary of the perceived role of the mother in the mid nineteenth century.
